Cancer treatments put many people at risk for lymphedema,
requiring bodyworkers to be well grounded in this subject. This 6-day basic certification course
in Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is based on the techniques developed by Dr.
Emil Vodder, Ph.D. When skillfully applied, this therapeutic form of soft
tissue mobilization dramatically enhances lymph formation and promotes drainage within the
superficial and deep systems of the lymph vascular network. During this course
students will be instructed in the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system as
well as the formation of disease states and conditions responsible for edema.
Students will achieve the following objectives:
• Comprehension of relevant scientific terminology related to the lymphatic system
• Comprehension and differentiation between the normal and diseased states of the lymphatic system.
• Comprehension of the indications and contraindications related to the use of MLD
• Competently perform the basic techniques of MLD for all body areas
• Develop appropriate treatment strategies for indications such as: post-surgical edema, post-traumatic edema, general
detoxification, relaxation and other conditions.
Please note: Students will practice on one another in this class. There will be no clinical work with actual clients. This course will address lymphedema issues that may arise with a cancer patient, and it will prepare the
participant for the treatment of mild lymphedema. Students who are so motivated must take an
additional certification training for “Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT)” through
Klose Training and Consulting.

In this module we will begin to take an in-depth look at the internal organ systems from
an Eastern and Western point of view. This comprehensive understanding will enable you
to practice in a totally different realm while massaging the oncology patient. You will
learn protocols utilizing point therapy, foot reflexology and heated stone therapy
techniques. Using these very specific protocols, you will learn to assist clients who are
suffering from side effects of chemotherapy and radiation and help support their internal
organ and immune systems. We will be massaging with special East Indian oils to nourish
these internal systems. There will be a basic oncology physiology section as well as
emotional support skills. You will work directly with oncology clients and learn to
understand how to best assist them during their struggle with cancer and hopefully their
return back to health. We will also work with English as well as Sanskrit mantras to help the clients learn to stimulat their own DNA ("Divine Nature in Action") toward health.
Please Note: This module spans two 4-day weekends and must be taken as a whole.
